Cold Steel Natchez Bowie Knife
The Cold Steel Natchez Bowie Knife Was born “Under-The-Hill” taking it’s pedigree from seedy taverns and dimly lit streets. This knife is the definitive fighting Bowie that’s been line bred for battle. The long blade is shaped for strength, reach, and leverage with significant, well balanced heft. With a wickedly sharp edge this knife pierces like a dagger, cuts like a razor, and chops like a cleaver.
The blade of the Natchez Bowie is vacuum heat-treated VG-1 San Mai III steel, it’s not easy to do but yields a virtually indestructible blade. The handle features a double quillon guard, bolster, and pommel built with highly polished 300 series stainless steel wrapped in elegant black linen Micarta. All these details allow for a variety of grips and make it a formidable impact weapon as well.
San Mai III Steel is an interesting and unique steel as well as being some of the toughest steel available. The simple way to understand it is to think about a sandwich. The “meat” or center of the blade is a hard, high carbon steel and the “bread” are softer, lower carbon pieces of steel on the outside. It’s built this way because an edge needs to be sharp and hard however if the whole blade were made of that type of steel it would not handle impact or lateral stress well. The softer, more flexible steel on the outside takes that punishment well however that type of steel doesn’t take an edge well. The marriage of the two creates a blade that takes and keeps an incredibly sharp edge while remaining capable of enduring hard use.
